Jerry is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist from San Rafael, CA who has been counseling and teaching for over 30 years. His deep faith in the essential beauty of each person inspires a passionate commitment to support people in their psychological growth and living more fulfilling and meaningful lives.

He received his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies as well as a master’s degree in Community Development from the University of Missouri. He has certificates in Family Therapy from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work, in HIV Pre and Post Test Counseling from Project AHEAD, San Francisco, and in Neuromonitoring and Neurofeedback from The Anna Wise Center.

Jerry’s clinical experience has been rich and diverse, beginning with his work in community mental health where for 15 years he helped children and families, the chronically mentally ill, and teens struggling with issues of depression, sexual identity, and abuse. He practiced as a Senior Clinical Case Manager and Emergency Psychiatric Clinician for eleven years at Health Net. At the time of the September 11th attack in New York City, he provided crisis counseling to several survivors. He also was a Military and Family Life Counselor for several years, providing short-term situational, problem-solving counseling to service members and their families at military installations in the USA and overseas.

In addition to his interest in psychology, Jerry has a lifelong commitment to philosophical understanding, meditation, and their integration into the practice of therapy. He has trained in and practiced meditation for over 40 years in many spiritual traditions including Raja Yoga, Vipassana, Zen, Mindfulness, the Advaita method of self-inquiry, and the Course in Miracles practice. In 2004, after becoming certified in neurofeedback he began teaching CE courses on meditation and brainwave feedback.

He currently has a private therapy and consulting practice centered in the San Francisco Bay Area and provides online therapy and telehealth worldwide. He is the Founder of Psychology of Joy®, a nonprofit organization dedicated to a paradigm shift in the healing arts and sciences and to bringing a mindful and compassionate path to the integration of the conscious, subconscious, and superconscious mind in support of a truly whole, joyful and co-creative self.
